Q: What is a mailing list anyway?
A: An electronic mailing list allows people to exchange information and opinions
with others who have a shared interest.
Messages sent to the list are automatically sent to all subscribers.
Subscribing to the list is free.
Q: Why should I join the Joe Jackson mailing list?
A: The Joe Jackson mailing list is for anyone who is interested in Joe Jackson's artistic output
(his albums, his autobiography, tours and concerts, etc).
Members of this mailing list are among the first people to hear about upcoming
album releases, tour dates etc.
Q: How do I join the Joe Jackson mailing list?
A: To join the mailing list you need to subscribe.
To do this you can...
Q: How do I unsubscribe from the mailing list?
A: To unsubscribe from the list you can...
Alternatively you may wish to remain a member but reduce the number of e-mails by changing your subscription
option to Daily Digest. To do this click on "My Groups", then "Edit My Groups" and look for the Joe Jackson group.
Then select "Daily Digest" under "Message Delivery". Click "Save changes".
Q: How can I post a message to the list?
A: There are two ways of posting messages:
- By e-mail: Send your message to joe-jackson@yahoogroups.com.
(Note: You can only post to groups you've joined, and only from e-mail addresses registered with Yahoo! Groups.)
- Via the Yahoo! Groups website: go to the Joe Jackson page at Yahoo! Groups, sign in, then click "Post", write your message, and finally click
"Send Message".
Q: What else should I keep in mind?
A: Here are some points to remember:
- Don't forget that whatever you send to the list is being sent to all list members
(currently nearly 350). So you should check that your message is relevant to the list's topic.
- When you're replying to a message that someone has sent to the list, think carefully about
whether your reply should be addressed to that person directly or to the whole list.
If you decide to reply privately, be sure to check the e-mail address your message goes out to.
By default it will be sent to the list. You must actively copy that person's private address
into the "To:" field of your message.
- When quoting someone's message in your reply, remove all the lines that are not relevant to
what you want to say. It's considered very bad style to quote a long message only to add
"I agree". Remember that most people have to pay for downloading their e-mail, so try to
keep your messages short.
- When you are replying to a posting but moving the discussion on to a new subject, make sure to change
the subject line in your e-mail. This makes it easier for others to find relevant messages.
- Do not send pictures or other attachments with your e-mails. Instead save them to the "Files" section
of the Joe Jackson page at Yahoo! Groups.
- Make sure to switch your e-mail program to text only (switch off the HTML option). This is usually
achieved in the Settings or Options menu.
